The Craziest Cray You May Have Missed
During the middle of last week, a story was published at Vox.com (I know, what is that?) that may have been brushed under the rug a bit, but deserves resurfacing. College professor Edward Schlosser wrote an article entitled, “I’m a Liberal Professor, and My Liberal Students Terrify Me.” The title is very self-explanatory, and Schlosser detailed the reasons why the academic world is in more danger now than ever before of becoming virtually free from opposing opinions and ideals.
The entire article is worth reading, but the biggest takeaway is the fact that a self-proclaimed liberal professor is afraid for the future of American education. Our colleges and universities, he argues, have become safe havens for sensitive feelings rather than marketplaces of ideas that challenge existing knowledge. Is it worth it for young liberals to cry outrage at an assigned reading of a Mark Twain text? Is an opposing opinion that threatening to the images of dancing rainbows and butterflies they picture in some faraway utopia?
Apparently, rather than seeking an education, young liberals are seeking little more than a passing grade and fifteen minutes of fame. When you’ve lost your liberal professors, you know you’ve gone headfirst into the crazy pool.
