Glamour apparently couldn’t find any real women worthy of the title “Woman of the Year”
“Glamour,” originally called “Glamour of Hollywood,” is a women’s magazine aimed at females ages 18-49. First published in 1939, the magazine changed names in 1943, and added the subtitle “for the girl with the job.” The magazine sells a little less than 2.5 million magazines per issue and prides itself as being the go-to magazine for all things beauty. It’s come a long, long way since 1943, and some would argue the climb hasn’t been uphill.
Word on the street is Glamour is set to bestow Bruce Jenner, now known as “Caitlyn Jenner,” the coveted 25th Anniversary “Woman of the Year” Award, to be presented at New York City’s Carnegie Hall on the evening of November 9, though it will be officially announced a week earlier. Though no official word has been released by Glamour, Jenner reportedly recently showed up for a “top secret” photo shoot for the cover, and will share the stage with Reese Witherspoon — an actual woman — among others.
Feminists ought to be furious, and really, maybe this is what their recent #pissforequality campaign was all about. (yes, it’s really a thing) That glass ceiling they constantly harp about cracking just got a heck of a lot thicker with this announcement. It’s a sad day when a women’s magazine that celebrates all things woman can’t find a woman worthy of the title, so it names a man who still has a penis and has only called himself a woman for a little more than six months.
“Caitlyn Jenner is Woman of the Year because…” claims Alex Schmider, from the Los Angeles LGBT Center, “…she made the decision to transition publicly, so that in the future kids don’t have to wait until they’re 65 to discover who they are.”
Really, it’s a sad state of affairs when a man who clearly has some serious issues is given the limelight he seeks and is widely celebrated for his womanhood, only…he’s not a woman. You can bully all of America into calling him “Caitlyn,” and put all kinds of garb on him to compress his man parts, but it doesn’t change who Jenner is on the inside. He’s still a man, through and through, because that is who God created him to be.
In the end, it’s up to Glamour who they choose to award as “Woman of the Year.” To give the award to a man only serves to further discredit an already tanking industry. Once again, the media and their friends in Hollywood thrust the proverbial middle finger into the faces of real women, who live real lives, suffer real tragedies, and work hard every day just to make ends meet. Those women often choose to waste their hard earned money purchasing magazines like Glamour, and I wonder how happy they’ll be to see a man plastered on the front of a magazine, once again, celebrated as something he is not.
