Is Bill out to get Hillary?
Bill Clinton recently gave an interview to NBC News, and he dropped a few gems that amount to nothing but a weak defense of the Clinton Foundation’s dubious fundraising practices. It’s left us wondering if Bill is actually out to get Hillary?
When asked by interviewer Cynthia McFadden if taking money from the Saudi Arabian government was a bad idea, Clinton responded “Absolutely not.” He was then pressed to address the new Clinton Foundation guidelines that will see the group accepting donations from only six foreign governments:
It’s an acknowledgement that we’re going to come as close as we can during her presidential campaign to following the rules we followed when she became secretary of state.
The “rules” she followed as Secretary of State saw her doling out favors in return for large donations. It appears nothing will really change, other than the pool of potential foreign donors will be smaller.
Also from the NBC interview:
There is no doubt in my mind that we have never done anything knowingly inappropriate in terms of taking money to influence any kind of American government policy. That just hasn’t happened.
Semantics, with a healthy dose of twisted logic.
The most puzzling quote from the interview has to be this:
All I’m saying is the idea that there’s one set of rules for us and another set for everybody else is true.
If you’re thinking this is an acknowledgement that the Clinton’s get to play by their own rules, you’d be wrong. Clinton is, instead, bemoaning the ludicrous idea that the Clinton family is held to much higher standards than “everybody else.”
If this were true, Hillary would have been held accountable, at the very least, for Benghazi and her super special secret email server. [Side note: Rep. Trey Gowdy is doing the work of the people by calling Hillary to testify on Benghazi, but it remains to be seen if justice will be served.]
While Bill clearly relishes being in the spotlight right now – and why the heck isn’t Hillary, arch feminist, defending herself? – we can’t help but to wonder if he’s doing more harm than good?
