Katy Perry Jumps On Board the Education Train During US Tour, Supports Teachers
According to the AP Thursday, Katy Perry will jump on board the education train as she begins the North American leg of her Prismatic Tour, in hopes of inspiring fans to help support teacher projects as they head into the 2014/15 school year. Hard work and determination are what Perry credits for her own success, and she plans to pay it forward.
“I’m an American girl that had a dream, executed a dream, came from nothing - and that really is the American dream,” said Perry.
The international music sensation lent support Thursday by helping Staples, Inc. present a $1 million dollar donation to her “Make Roar Happen” initiative at DonorsChoose.Org. DonorsChoose is a hub where teachers are able to post project/classroom needs, and donors can choose not only which project(s) to donate to, but a dollar amount as low as $1.
“I really believe knowledge is power,” said Perry. “Especially for females. I feel like our education makes us more confident.”
Perry explained that she didn’t grow up with the ideal educational situation, but tries to make up for it now by visiting museums and national parks while on tour.
“I thought, instead of shopping my way around the world, why not educate my way around the world?”
The 46-city North American Prismatic Tour kicks off in Raleigh, NC on June 22, and Perry assures reporters her team hopes to visit every nearby national park and museum they possibly can. She added that Dollywood is one most definitely on the list.
“I’m aware that people look up to me, but I hope it’s more an inspirational thing and not like, `Katy Perry makes these decisions for herself, so therefore I’ll make decisions based on those Katy Perry makes,’ because that’s not how anyone should live their life,” she said. “But I hope they’re inspired by my hard work, my ambition, and my integrity.”
One thing’s for sure, teachers will likely benefit greatly from Perry’s “Make Roar Happen” initiative. We happen to think that is pretty awesome.
