Will Texas Rise or Fall?
One of the things I love the most about America is the uniqueness that each state offers. Going from one state to another can at times feel like changing worlds. And few states offer as much history and variety as the great state of Texas.
Nicknamed the “Lone Star” state, Texas is truly a land unto itself. Once part of Spain, Mexico and then an independent country before joining the union, Texas became the 28th state in 1845. Almost 900 miles across, Texas offers everything from woodlands to deserts, mountains to coastline. Culturally it is a mix of Native American heritage, Spanish and Mexican influence, and the spirit of the American pioneer. This state of crossroads is forging ahead and outpacing many of its peers. If Texas were an independent country it would have the 13th largest economy in the world. And it ranks number 2 in population in the US with over 26 million people, coming in just behind California.
With such a big “place on the map” it’s no wonder the History Channel has chosen Texas as the subject of it next big television event. Following the success of the Hatfields & McCoys, the History Channel is at it again with a star studded cast set to bring the Texas Revolution to life in Texas Rising. Starring Bill Paxton as General Sam Houston and Oliver Martinez as Mexican General Santa Anna, Texas Rising picks up at the end of the Battle of the Alamo and chronicles the Revolution and the formation of the Texas Rangers.
While reviews have been mixed, the History Channel has built up the miniseries with numerous promos and previews, and is expecting the movie to bring in viewers. Will you watch?
